Zâne is a journey of the photographer Ioana Cîrlig across different landscapes, from the Carpathians to the Danube Delta, and a meeting with people living in sync with nature in remote and traditional Romanian communities.

“Zână, zâne” (fairy): mythological creature in Romanian pagan folklore. With many different representations, it is usually a female character, beautiful and kind, with magical powers and the gift of immortality. Spirits of nature, good fairies are born from flowers and they live in forests or at the top of high mountains. They are one of the many ways that people used to express the belief that everything is alive and connected in nature.
